OGC™ SOFTWARE

Envision the cost of variability...

                                 with OGC software

OGC (Ore Grade Control) is an effective tool for analyzing and evaluating exploration data and costs. Sampling characteristics of the ore are calculated, and then a sampling protocol is developed.  Drilling costs are minimized while maximizing information.  Ore grade misclassification is estimated.  OGC is a set of techniques to assess the origin of variability in any sampling pattern:

An exploration drilling pattern
A blasthole drilling pattern
A copper cathode drilling pattern
A laboratory subsampling pattern from an analytical sample pulp

The OGC approach is very versatile, using the principles of the Sampling Theory as presented by C.O. Ingamells. OGC is not a substitute for good geostatistics, but it is rather a complementary tool to show the necessity of having good geostatistical programs.

OGC is an effective tool used by managers to investigate optimization of sampling protocols and sampling patterns, and if not optimized, the possible negative effects.  Such investigations of flawed sampling protocols and sampling patterns may minimize negative consequences resulting from...

Poor sampling and subsampling protocols
Poor sampling frequency
Highly Poisson skewed data
Poor precision ellipses
Poor cutoff grade selection
Cutoff grade incompatible with precision ellipse
Very large, invisible operation cost

A few applications of OGC may include:

Assessment of variability sources in existing data
Assessment of sampling characteristics in a new ore or product
Optimization of exploration costs by optimizing total sample weight
Quantifying possible money losses using precision ellipses
Quantifying possible money losses using duplicate samples
Quantifying possible money losses using simulated duplicated samples

In conjunction with OGC software, the following training course is offered to enhance your usage:

Ore Grade Control Software (OGC) Course, provides an overview of the sampling characteristics of an existing or unknown orebody. The same approach is used for finding the sampling characteristics of impurities in highly valuable products (e.g., copper concentrates, alumina shipments, copper cathodes, etc...). The same approach is used for finding the sampling characteristics of a pollutant in the environment. After completing this course, you should be able to quantify in graphics:

Sampling characteristics using existing data,
Sampling characteristics of an unknown ore or product,
Impact of highly Poisson skewed data,
Minimization of exploration cost,
Precision an accuracy ellipse,
Money loss generated by sampling and analytical precision,
Amount of ore grade misclassification,
Wisdom of a pre-selected economic cutoff grade.
